- I’ve nominated some aspiring leaders from our university to take part. What now?
A few days before enrollment closes, we will contact you via email to invite you to join the programme. You will then be able to browse the courses available in the two programmes and choose two to take up until mid December 2021, at no cost.
- Will I get a certificate for every course I complete?
Yes, you will. You will be able to complete a maximum of two programmes. Upon completion you will receive a certificate from the University or Organisation that created the course.
Here is an example of the IBM ‘What is Data Science?’ course certificate.
Additionally, a certificate will be awarded by the AARU on successful completion of two courses.
- Can I see detailed information about what will be covered in each course?
Yes, you can. Please visit the dedicated website [ENTER AARU website link here] and navigate to ‘Courses Available’ button to read about each programme and the courses available.
- Do you have step by step instructions showing how I can get access to the programme?

- Will you be running any information sessions?
Yes we will. There will be two sessions on the below date and times that will cover the following:
● Introduction to the programme
● An overview of the courses available
● A step by step overview of how to get access to the programme and navigate the interface
● Q&A

If you are unable to attend your session time, you are welcome to join a different session.
- Do I have to pay anything to be part of the programme?
There is no cost to being involved in the programme and you should not be prompted for payment or to start a trial. Enrolling on and completing the two courses is free of charge.
If you see mention of a trial or payment you are probably accessing Coursera via Coursera’s public site. Please ensure you see the AARU logo in the top right of the screen.
- Does the university have to pay anything to be part of the programme?
This programme is free of charge and allows Leaders and up to 5 Aspiring Leaders at each AARU member university to access 2 courses between September and December.
- I’ve changed my mind after enrolling on a course, can I change my choice of course?
Yes, that’s fine!
You can unenroll from a course within 14 days of first enrolling and then enrol on a new course.
Here’s the steps to follow:
Log into your Coursera account.
- Open the list of courses you're enrolled in by clicking Enrollments on your Coursera home page
- Next to the course you want to unenroll from, click the three dots to open the menu.
- Choose ‘Leave Course’.
If you have problems, contact Coursera’s 24/7 Online Chat support team by clicking the question mark button on the button right of the screen within Coursera.
- Can I take another course that is available on Coursera but is not part of the programme?
You can only take courses that are available as part of the two programmes.
The courses that are available to leaders and aspiring leaders have been carefully selected based on feedback from University leaders across the region. The first stage of the programme is to offer access to 2 courses that we believe will be beneficial. AARU, ARELEN and Coursera are in discussion about providing wider access in January 2022. Please do provide feedback if there are courses that you would like to be included in the next phase of the programme.
- Can I take more than 2 courses if I pay for any extra courses myself?
As part of this programme you can only take 2 courses up until December 2021.
However, you are free to visit www.coursera.org and browse the 5,000 course catalogue and enrol on any courses and pay yourself.
Payment for additional courses is not available via the AARU/ ARELEN Coursera programme.
- I already have a Coursera account, do I need to create a new account?
No you don’t have to create a new account, you can connect your personal account and your AARU/ ARELEN accounts.
Connecting your accounts lets you:
● Keep all your Course Certificates in one account even if you leave AArU/ ARELEN’s learning program
● Log in with your original Coursera account to access your learning program.
To connect your accounts:
● If the invitation is sent to your existing email, you'll be prompted to enter in your existing password.
● If the invitation is sent to an new email, you'll need to click Connect your existing account after you accept your invitation by following these instructions:
○ Click on AArU/ ARELEN’s invitation, click JOIN NOW.
○ Browse for a course you are interested in joining and click START
○ On the "SET UP YOUR ACCOUNT" screen, click LINK YOUR ACCOUNT
○ Enter the email address and password associated with your existing Coursera account
○ Click LOGIN
This will connect your learning program to your personal email account. You can then keep all your Course certificates in one account even if you leave AArU/ ARELEN’s learning program.
- I’m struggling to log in, who can help me?

- I have a question about this programme and my question is not technical. Who do I contact?

- Will my individual results and data be shared with my university and/or manager?
Individual learner results will not be shared with managers.
This data will only be available to the AARU/ ARELEN project team. Feedback will be anonymised and aggregated data will be used to present findings and results at the end of the year, this will be across all 1,000 participants and not focus on any one persons participation, engagement or usage of the programme.
- What will happen after the pilot?
Coursera and the AARU and ARELEN are in discussion as to how a larger Leadership Development programme will be rolled out in January 2022. Participation in the full programme will be optional.
- What happens if I miss the enrollment deadline?
Please contact the AARU via email - secgen@aaru.edu.jo and request access to the programme. Access may be given if there are spaces still available.
- Can I take a course in a different pathway?
Yes you can. Once you’ve logged in you will see both programmes - ‘Leaders’ and ‘Aspiring Leaders’. Although courses have been grouped together to appeal to different leaders, you are more than welcome to choose courses from either programme. E.g. one from the Leaders programme and one from the Aspiring Leaders programme.
- Are there any courses available in Arabic?
The University Leaders Programme consists of the following courses available in Arabic.

The Aspiring Leaders Programme consists of the following courses available in Arabic.
- إستراتيجية الأعمال المتقدمة (Advanced Business Strategy), University of Virginia
- ما علم البيانات؟ (What is Data Science), IBM
You can enrol on courses from either programme.
- How long are the courses?
Courses can take anywhere between 1 hour and 26 hours to complete.
Guided Projects take between 1 to 2 hours to complete.
‘Approximate number of hours’ shows the average number of hours it might take to complete the course at a steady pace. However, you are free to go at your own pace and it’s very possible to complete a 12 hour course in a much shorter amount of time.

- What are Guided Projects?
Two Guided Projects have been included in the Aspiring Leaders programme and 2 projects within the Leaders Programme which should take 1 to 2 hour to complete.
Guided Projects are short hands-on learning courses that take between 1 and 2 hours to complete. You’ll get to use some software and tools to complete a project with the help of an instructor guiding you through step by step what to do.
The Guided Projects available in the Leaders Programme are:
● Creating Informative Presentations with Google Slides
● Introduction to Project Management with ClickUp
The Guided Projects available in the Aspiring Leaders Programme are:
● Spreadsheets for Beginners using Google Sheets
● Engaging and Assessing Students with Plickers
Would I be able to take the course in full on-line?
Yes, the programme is 100% online and is self paced so you can progress through the course content as quickly or slowly as you would like. The courses can also be accessed via the Coursera mobile app.
2. Would the course will in form of interactive lectures on-line?
Yes, courses are made up of quizzes and high quality interactive videos available on a computer via a browser or via the Coursera mobile app. Courses are broken down into weeks which contain different learning materials. Typically, videos are short and around 4-6 minutes each in length so they can be watched during periods of free time or lunch breaks. Courses are taught by professionals that are experts in their fields and are extremely high quality.
3. If he course will be in form of interactive courses on line, would be flexible to watch during weekends(Fridays and Saturdays) not during working hours?
You can watch the videos and progress through the courses whenever is convenient for you - weekends, evenings, mornings etc. Coursera is available to AARU members online 24/7.
4. If the course in the form of reading material (PDF or else), would it be downloadable during any time or specific hours?
The majority of the learning content is high quality short videos but downloadable PDFs and links to websites for additional reading will be made available in each course. This material is available 24/7 until the end of the programme which finishes on the 13th January 2022.
5. Would the course will mandate projects (individual or group) to be done at end of each part/title of course contents?
The majority of projects that are part of the programme will conclude with a final quiz which will be done online. This quiz will be automarked. If you don't pass you'll be able to retake the quiz and revisit previous learning materials so you can master the topic.
