Arab Council for Quality Assurance and Accreditation Concludes its Work at AArU



AMMAN - The participants of the 7th meeting of the Arab Council for Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Arab Universities called for holding a consultative meeting at the level of directors of quality and accreditation bodies in the Arab world with participation of the Council’s Board of Directors.

The 7th meeting, which was held at the headquarters of AArU on Wednesday January 28, 2015, was chaired by the Secretary General Dr. Sultan Abu-Orabi and attended by Assistant Secretary-General, Dr. Mohammad Rafat Mahmood - who is also the Council’s Chairman - Dr. Mustafa Al Basheer, Director of the General Secretariat Ms. May Wahbeh, directors of Arab quality assurance and accreditation commissions, and members of the Board of Directors of the Council who are from Jordan, Egypt, Kuwait, Yemen, Bahrain and Iraq .

The Council recommended to begin in granting QA and accreditation certificates for academic programs at the level of Arab Universities as a trial, in addition, they recommended developing QA and accreditation standards for Shari’a and Islamic Studies colleges in the Arab universities.

In turn, Abu-Orabi stressed the need for the Arab universities to coordinate with quality and accreditation bodies in the Arab countries, to contribute to maintaining a high-quality higher education in the Arab universities. He also invited the participants to attend the Fifth International Arab Conference on Quality Assurance in Higher Education (IACQA'2015) which will convene during the period 3-5 March 2015, at the University of Sharjah.

The participants highlighted the Council’s achievements during 2014, most notably the issuance of  quality and accreditation manuals for nursing and information technology disciplines, the Council also issued quality and accreditation manuals for other academic programs and for the open and distance education in English.

Moreover, the Council implemented several activities and workshops in 2014, aimed at the dissemination of the culture of quality which has become an important component, in the Arab world and worldwide, to guarantee a good level of education.
